Areas affected…portions of northwestern Kansas into extreme
southwestern Nebraska
Concerning…Severe Thunderstorm Watch 676…678…
Valid 100050Z – 100145Z
The severe weather threat for Severe Thunderstorm Watch 676, 678
continues.
SUMMARY…The severe threat continues across Severe Thunderstorm
Watches 676 and 678. Severe wind and hail remain the primary
threats.
DISCUSSION…Supercell structures have remained dominant while
embedded within an MCS, supporting a mix of severe wind and hail
across extreme southwestern Nebraska. These storms are propagating
southwestward along a confluence zone, where adequate buoyancy and
vertical shear remain in place to support a continued threat of
severe wind and hail. A couple more instances of severe hail may
also accompany more isolated supercells that have initiated off of
the confluence boundary along the CO/KS border. These storms may
persist for another hour or so, before diminishing with the onset of
nocturnal cooling. Meanwhile, the convergence of the MCS cold pool
and confluence zone will continue to support a relatively longer
term severe threat.
