MD 2266 CONCERNING HEAVY SNOW FOR WESTERN/CENTRAL NEBRASKA

Mesoscale Discussion 2266
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1118 AM CDT Sat Oct 28 2023

Areas affected…western/central Nebraska

Concerning…Heavy snow

Valid 281618Z – 281815Z

SUMMARY…Heavy snowfall rates 1″+/hr possible through the early
afternoon.

DISCUSSION…A band of heavy snow has developed across portions of
western/central Nebraska along and north of I-80 from Keystone, NE
to Halsey, NE. Surface observations indicated moderate to heavy snow
is ongoing within this band with rates around 1″/hr and visibility
<1/2 mi. Upper air analysis indicates that further enhancement may
be ongoing from a vort max tracking northeastward across far eastern
Colorado into western Nebraska. Hi-res guidance has had poor
handling of this persistent snow band with more recent HRRR runs now
indicating the band will persist, drifting slowly south and east,
for the next 1-2 hours.
