The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Central and south-central Illinois
Central and eastern Missouri

* Effective this Thursday morning from 440 AM until NOON CDT.

* Primary threats include…
Scattered damaging wind gusts to 70 mph likely
Isolated very large hail events to 2 inches in diameter possible

SUMMARY…A line of strong-severe thunderstorms initially over
central/southwestern MO is expected to continue moving rapidly
east-northeastward through the rest of this morning. Accompanying
threats for severe gusts and isolated large hail will include the
St. Louis metro and vicinity, and parts of IL.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 60
statute miles north and south of a line from 60 miles west northwest
of Fort Leonard Wood MO to 40 miles east of Mattoon IL. For a

REMEMBER…A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
